Secondary Schools

1-3 hour sessions which give students confidence and practical tools required for creating their own theatre!

These workshops can be tailored to suit any age and group size:

Students will be familiarised with the working methods and performance styles of the chosen practitioner/s and related play texts. Students will be encouraged to share ideas whilst watching and learning from each other. We cover detailed notes and sentences to use in exams, alongside improvisation, mask, chorus, ensemble, text, tableaux, voice, mime and physical work.

For some of the workshops we require a blacked out space, a basic wash and access to a CD player.
Maximum number of students 40.

Our aim is to provide fun, lively and clear workshops that are flexible to suit your requirements. You can combine two practitioners together or use a set text with a choice of practitioner. Essentially you can design your own workshop and theme. Some options are as follows:

Practical Devising:
Our devising workshops provide the students with a tool-box of techniques that they can use to create their own work. We pack the workshop with different styles, creativity, stimulus and props , with solo, duet and group exercises which can later all be adapted to suit their own piece.

We look at; soundscapes - chair duets – lifts & balances – character building – mime – multi use props… with the longer workshop they work towards creating their own small devised piece which they then show to the rest of the rest of the group. (They may use their own stimuli or one provided by us).

2-4 Hour Brecht Master Class:
We specialize in Brecht and therefore offer specialist Master Classes in Brecht and the Verfremdung effect techniques. You can choose a Brecht play (see list below for some options) and we will lead a physical theatre workshop to give students confidence & clarity with the Gestic acting style and all the alienation techniques.

 We look at the art of demonstrating, of using voice, stance, gesture, movement, Narration, Commentation, 
facial expression and proxemics to communicate a gest, a social and political message. The students will be able to understand Brecht in a clear and fun way allowing them to have plenty of techniques and ideas to use in their theory or practical work.
Depending on the year group the workshop will be tailored to suit their requirements and experience.

Artaud;
The students will be able to understand Artaud in a clear and fun way allowing them to have plenty of techniques and ideas to use in their theory or practical work. We will look at choral work and his universal language – Theatre of cruelty – Total theatre – Abstract Imagery. 

With the longer workshop they work towards creating their own small devised piece which they then show to the rest of the rest of the group. (They may use their own stimuli or one provided by us).

Berkoff:
During the workshop the students will look at the different theatrical techniques and styles Berkoff uses within his performances. We look at; Exaggerated and stylised mime – Externalising Emotions – Abstract use of voice and ensemble playing - Physicalisation of objects -  Narration – Exaggerated Charatcers.

With the longer workshop they work towards creating their own small devised piece which they then show to the rest of the rest of the group. (They may use their own stimuli or one provided by us).

 

 

Stanislavski:
We look at Stans aims and techniques used to create a truthful performance. Realism/naturalism – Actions - Relaxation of muscles – Inner Monologue - Emotion Memory - Units and objectives -Subtext – Understanding the text…

With the longer workshop they work towards creating their own small devised piece which they then show to the rest of the rest of the group. (They may use their own stimuli or one provided by us).

                                      The acting industry:
We look at the audition process – Choosing the right piece – Monologues
 - Agents – Voice Work – Movement – Interview techniques – Gaining Work…

With the longer workshop they work towards performing a monologue or duologue which they then show to the rest of the rest of the group in an audition style. (They may use their own text or one provided by us).

Woyzeck – Matamorphosis Master Class:
We offer a Woyzeck and a Metamorphosis physical theatre workshop in which a detailed teachers pack can be provided. We look at the styles and techniques it lends itself to and the rehearsal techniques used by Scene Productions to create their version. We look at how to create the lead characters in the texts – the relationships – themes – Movement – Tableux – Heightened and realistic characters – Script Work…

All other workshops;
Mime – commedia dell’arte – Creative Adaption – Character – Introduction to Physical Thetare… are tailored to suit the year group, group size and level at which the group are at. A leader will discuss the requirements and desires with the teacher upon enquiry.
